Americans for the Arts Announces Winners of 2009 National Arts Awards

Washington, D.C.-based Americans for the Arts has announced the winners of the 2009 National Arts Awards.
Presented each year in October to coincide with National Arts and Humanities Month, the awards recognize artists whose work demonstrates extraordinary artistic achievement and individuals who exhibit exemplary national leadership in the arts.
This year’s winners include actor and filmmaker Robert Redford, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and artist Ed Ruscha, who received the Artistic Excellence Award. In addition, author Salman Rushdie (Midnight’s Children, The Satanic Verses) was awarded the Kitty Carlisle Hart Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts; businessman and philanthropists Sidney Harman received the Frederick R. Weisman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts; and Anne Finucane, global chief strategy and marketing officer with the Bank of America, was honored with the Corporate Citizenship in the Arts Award.
